MILLBROOK GIRLS EARN TITLE SHOT VS. SEWARD

Top-Seeded Blazers Beat Sullivan West

MILLBROOK – Now the Millbrook High School girls basketball team is hoping to piggyback this winter what several Blazers sports teams accomplished in the fall – a sectional title.

No. 1 Millbrook jumped out to a quick start and never trailed, beating No. 4 Sullivan West on Tuesday, 57-23, in a Section 9, Class C semifinal.

The Blazers will go for the title on Friday night at 5 p.m. at Mount St. Mary College against No. 2 S. S. Seward, a 68-42 winner over No. 3 Pine Plains in the other semifinal.

It will be a matchup of two teams with a combined record of 35-6. Seward improved to 18-3 by hitting 10 three-pointers in its semifinal win, placing three players in double figures.

Josely Medina led the way with 19 points, Alexa Roach had 17 points, and Erika Straub added 13 for the Spartans.

“Friday night will be tough, no doubt,” Millbrook coach Adam Peek said. “We still need to sharpen some things. I thought we played well defensively tonight but we had way too many turnovers.”

Erin Fox of Millbrook led all scorers with 27 points. Teammates Sam McKenna and Hannah Fisher had 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Josephine Martinez led Sullivan West with 12 points.
