Mongon, Quick Notch Goals In 2-1 Win

MILLBROOK – For the senior class on the Millbrook High School girls soccer team, it was euphoric.

“I’m happy for the team and happy for my seniors – this is the first time they have beaten Rhinebeck,” Blazers coach Jerome Canzoneri said after his team beat the Hawks, 2-1, on Thursday. “(Rhinebeck coach Matt Grande) does a great job; his teams are always a handful.  We have played them close but always seem to come up a little short, so it is nice to finally get one.”

Sabrina Mongon had a big game for Millbrook, scoring the first goal on a well-placed shot to the corner of the goal and setting up Rebecca Quick for the game-winning goal with a perfect through-ball.

“Sabrina is the kind of player every coach loves to have,” Canzoneri said. “You can put her anywhere on the field, and she will do a great job.  She is usually doing the kind of things that don’t show up in the stats box, doing what is required to help her team win. It was nice to see her have this kind of game.”

Julia Williams had an assist for the Blazers and Ella Wilson needed to make just one save to preserve the win.

Ellie Butler had the goal for Rhinebeck.
