MILLBROOK, PINE PLAINS BOYS READY FOR BACKYARD BRAWL

Blazers And Bombers To Square Off For Section 9, Class C Crown

MILLBROOK – As the crow flies there’s only about 16 miles between Millbrook and Pine Plains, making any meeting of their respective high school sports programs a big deal.

Now the two boys basketball teams will go at it for the right to call themselves Section 9, Class C champions and advance into the state tournament after both teams won their respective semifinal games on Tuesday night.

Tip-off in the title match will be 7 p.m. on Thursday night at Middletown High School.

 

Top-seeded Millbrook absolutely crushed No. 4 Seward, 84-17, as Liam Flaherty scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Blazers.

Joe Gjidoda added 10 points and Clay Mongon tallied nine for the winners.

Second-seeded Pine Plains had an equally easy time in its semifinal as the Bombers beat No. 3 Tri-Valley, 80-42, in a Funky kind of night – Adam Funk scored a game-high 28 points, while Zach Funk and Tyler Funk each scored 17 points. Calab McCaul had a double-double for the Bombers with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Pine Plains is playing its best basketball of the year, using a 25-7 blitz in the third quarter to put the game away.
