MINISINK VALLEY, NEW PALTZ ADVANCE IN FOOTBALL SECTIONALS

Huguenots Defeat Wallkill, Warriors Top Warwick In Quarterfinals

NEW PALTZ – On to the semifinals.

New Paltz High School football got off to a fast start, and the No. 4 Huguenots beat No. 5 Wallkill, 43-13, in the Section 9, Class A quarterfinals on Friday night.

At just about the same time, No. 3 Minisink was doing just about the same thing, and the Warriors rolled over No. 6 Warwick, 34-6.

New Paltz will square off with No. 1 Cornwall, the defending state champions, on Friday night at 7 p.m. in a semifinal matchup at either Faller Field in Middletown or Dietz Stadium in Kingston.

Also on Friday, Minisink Valley will meet second-seeded Goshen, also at either Faller Field in Middletown or Dietz Stadium in Kingston.

Both Cornwall and Goshen won their respective divisions and earned byes in the quarterfinal round.

Minisink quarterback Kai Colon had another impressive effort, throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for two to lead the offense, which scored the first 34 points of the game.
