MINISINK VALLEY STOPS HOT NEW PALTZ

Warriors Score First 27 Points Of The Game

MIDDLETOWN – You know that big win over Marlboro last week that the Minisink Valley High School football team had?

We learned two things from that.

One, there was not letdown by the Warriors.

Two, it wasn’t a fluke.

Minisink stopped another hot team in its tracks this week, scoring the first 27 points of the game Friday night en route to a 41-14 victory over New Paltz.

The Warriors’ victory snapped a three-game winning streak for the Huguenots.

Kyle Killenberger had touchdown runs of 2, 34 and 2 yards, and quarterback Kai Colon threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Jack Romano to stake Minisink Valley to the four-touchdown lead in the first half.

Colon threw a pair of TD passes to John Mack in the second half in a very efficient performance – 6-for-9, 80 yards and the three TDs.

But he placed the credit of the victory squarely on the shoulders of Killenberger, who rushed for 140 yards on 19 carries.

“I thought the key was being able to run the ball, which later opened up the passing game,” Colon told HVSR. “We had a good week of practice and were focused coming into it. We knew they were going to be a tough team considering they made the section finals last year and were on a three-game winning streak. So we needed to come out hot, which we did.”
