SUNY New Paltz Men’s Volleyball Wins Second Division III Title

UNION, N.J. – The State University of New York at New Paltz did it again.

The Hawks rebounded from an opening set loss on Saturday night and came back to defeat the University of California-Santa Cruz, 3-1, to win the NCAA Division III national championship.

It was New Paltz’s second title after having won it all in 2012.

The match was played at Kean University.

The Hawks spotted the Banana Slugs a 23-25 victory in the first set and roared back to take the next three by the scores of 25-18, 25-17 and25-15 to win the title. Nick Smith’s kill, with an assist from Matthew Grace, sealed the win.

New Paltz was led by Aaron Carrk, who finished the day with 19 kills. Grace tallied 53 assists, while Robert Nolan notched 12 digs.
