NFA TENNIS BEATS MONROE, FALLS TO CORNWALL

Goldbacks Are 6-3 Overall

CENTRAL VALLEY – In their first two matches of a busy week, the Newburgh Free Academy boys tennis team turned in a split – beating division rival Monroe-Woodbury 4-3 before falling to undefeated Cornwall, 5-2.

The Goldbacks’ first three singles players – David Salazar, Jack Clayton and Matt Reinhold – all were victorious in the win over Monroe-Woodbury, while the first doubles team of Arnav and Aarav Shah won a three-set match to clinch the fourth victory.

“Every time we go to Monroe to play it’s always a battle,” NFA coach Dennis Maher said. “Today was no different.”

Against Cornwall, the storyline was reversed. The Green Dragons won all four singles matches in straight sets. Lucas Arora, Dan Leach, Reilly Chin and Sean Jessup all won as Cornwall improved to 11-0 overall.
