Warrior Boys, Girls Earn Victories

POUGHKEEPSIE – Prior to Tuesday night’s game, the Our Lady of Lourdes High School girls basketball team honored seniors Sam Fischer, Skyler Felice and Ava Learn.

Not surprisingly, all three contributed heavily as the Warriors beat Ketcham, 68-50, in a league matchup.

That made it a sweep, as the Lourdes boys handed RCK its first loss with a 64-60 road decision.

Felice had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, Learn had 15 points and Simone Pelish and Fischer both had 14 points.

Abby Mealy led the Indians with 15 points, with 11 coming from Megan Fitzsimmons and nine from Jen Nardelli.

“We were in immediate foul trouble, and we played the first half with Learn and Pelish on the bench,” Lourdes coach Al Viani said. “In the second half we were able to pull away. Ketcham played hard and shot the ball well.”

Back at Wappingers Falls, OLL’s frontline beasts had their way in a 64-60 victory over the RCK. Andrew Rappleyea had a game-high 25 points and Jason Schofield added 17 points.

Owen Paino led the Indians with 17 points. Dan Belmonte had 15 and Aidan Marshall added 11.

“They came out ready to play and we were shocked by their physicality,” Ketcham coach Mike Paino said. “Andrew and Jason, they know how to use their bodies.”

Once RCK figured out how to body up with the Warriors, they cut a double-digit deficit down to two points but missed three good looks at the basket late in the game could have tied it put them ahead.

Mike Paino said there was no hangover from the big win over Poughkeepsie in the previous game.

“No, no, not at all,” he said. “We’re all in the same boat as far as playing and practicing through the pandemic and snowstorms, so I don’t think it was a factor.”
