Section 9, Class B Playoffs Now All Set

KYSERIKE – And the tournament brackets have been filled.

Marlboro and James I. O’Neill high schools both won their respective football games Saturday and clinched their respective divisions, locking in the seeds for the Section 9, Class B playoffs.

Marlboro shut out Rondout Valley, 41-0, while O’Neill went to Burke and beat the Eagles, 23-3.

As the Division I champ, Marlboro will play Burke on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 3 p.m. at Dietz Stadium in Kingston. At the same time, Division II champ O’Neill will take on Port Jervis at Faller Field in Middletown.

The winners meet the following weekend for the Section 9, Class B championship.

The Iron Dukes had no problems with Rondout as Sam Mongelli threw for 91 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for 72 yards and two scores. Myles Barrington led the defensive effort with 11 tackles for Marlboro.

O’Neill was in a 3-3 game at the half with Burke before pulling away. Luke Kilner broke the tie with a 47-yard rushing touchdown, Hector Borgos scored on a short run, and Philip West sealed it with an 85-yard interception return.
