Total Of 17 Local Standouts Heading To Long Island

WALLKILL – Nine gymnasts from Section 9 qualified for the New York State Gymnastics Championship Meet, led by a sterling performance from Onteora High School’s Abigail Nolan.

Nolan captured all four disciplines and the all-around title at Monday’s Section 9 Championship.

Roosevelt won the team title and will send Angela Anthony, Shannon Kelly and Clara Patton to states, which will be held March 2 at Cold Spring Harbor High School on Long Island.

Along with that trio and Nolan, Highland’s Valerie Precour and Zoe Munson, and Wallkill’s Gabby Castro, Miah Frisbie and Rachel Vassell also qualified.

Nolan tallied 34.850 points to earn the title over Anthony, who scored 33.050.

Previously, Wappingers’ Yasmin Fells, Mahopac’s Jamison Castrataro, Lia Graap and Chloe Lee, and Putnam Valley’s Veronica Rosario, Caitlin Pellegrino, Taylor Breeding and Catherine Panzanaro all qualified out of the Section 1 Championship meet last week.
