Our Lady of Lourdes High School has a new athletic director who has strong ties to the school.

Like, really strong.

Matt Pascale is taking over the AD helm from Brad Westrick and will be guiding the Warriors’ athletic programs into a new era, as the school prepares to have its football, soccer and field hockey programs compete on a brand new artificial turf athletic facility.

“We can’t wait,” Pascale said. “They did a beautiful job. It’s really a nice addition to the school. It’s one of the better fields in the Hudson Valley and I’ve seen quite a few of them.”

Pascale, originally from Marlboro, played college football at Holy Cross. He got his first teaching job at Lourdes in 2007 before going back to his hometown to teach and coach football for several years before the OLL opening.

“As it’s been in my life, when God closes one door He opens another,” Pascale said of his return to Lourdes. “I’m thrilled to be here. It’s one of the best institutions in the area. They have so many wonderful things about the community that feed off the foundation of Christ.”

Oh, and about those really strong Lourdes ties? Well, he not only taught there, but his wife is the former Lourdes girls’ basketball star Jenna Viani. Which also makes Pascale the new boss of his father-in-law – Jenna’s dad, Al Viani, who is the current OLL girls’ basketball coach.

Asked about that interesting dichotomy, Pascale quipped: “I guess I get to decide where we have Christmas.”
