Rams Dominate In Season Opener

FREEDOM PLAINS – It’s not that the Carmel High School football team needed any validation from its season-opening game at Arlington on Friday night.

After all, the Rams went to the Section 1, Class AA semifinals in 2018, lost a tough game to No. 1 New Rochelle in the 2019 championship final in 2019, and had a winning “Fall II Season” back in the spring that included a convincing 27-point victory over Arlington.

Make that consecutive 27-point victories.

Carmel dominated from the first drive and went on to a 34-7 victory over the Admirals in the season opener for both teams.

The Rams scored the first two times they touched the ball, including a Kevin Dall touchdown pass, but the Admirals were still within striking distance at the half down 13-0.

But that ended quickly after the intermission.

Dylan Shields raced down the sideline for a 28-yard touchdown in the third quarter to make it 20-0 and, on the Admirals’ next possession, Dominick Telesco intercepted a pass and took it to the house.

Photographer Todd McDonough captured these stellar images of not only the game but the ceremony to honor 9/11 as well as the first game in almost two years that fans could attend.
