Defending Class A State Champs Run Streak To 15 Straight Wins

MARLBORO – It was everything you thought a battle between the defending New York State Class A football champ and a perennial state Class B contender might be, plus a little more.

Aidan Semo threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns, and Amin Woods rushed for 151 yards and a score, and Cornwall High School won on the road at Marlboro, on Friday, 28-21, in a non-league game.

The Dragons are now 3-0 overall; the Iron Dukes are 2-1.

Cornwall, which beat Marlboro last year as well, now has a 15-game winning streak.

“We knew they were a good football game,” Dragons coach Ryan Baldock said. “It was one of those games on the schedule that your circle that you know how much of a dogfight it’s going to be. We knew they were going to give us their best effort.”

It was a terrific football game with ebbs and flows. Marlboro went on an 18-play, nine-minute drive to open the game and take a 7-0 lead.

Cornwall tied it, then went ahead 14-7.

The Dukes tied it at 14, and again at 21 when the Dragons took a quiet lead.

Finally, with 6:02 remaining, Semo hit Louis Francese on an 11-yard fade route for the game-winning score.

The Dragons’ defense took over from there.

“I think the biggest thing was how much grit our guys showed,” Baldock said. “They came out with a great game plan. They jumped on us. They really impressed us.”
