Admirals Open The Playoffs With A Sweep

FREEDOM PLAINS – The burden of expectations can be heavy.

The Arlington High School volleyball team knows this.

The Admirals have only lost twice all year and were seeded third in the Section 1, Class AA tournament.

But in their opening match on Friday, Arlington showed no signs of any extra weight on their shoulders, sweeping No. 14 Fox Lane, 3-0, in the first round.

Scores were 25-14, 25-20, 25-17.

Arlington will face a familiar foe on Tuesday in the quarterfinals when No. 11 Mahopac, a league opponent, comes to town. Mahopac was an upset winner over No. 6 Scarsdale in the opening round.

Molly Stephens had 12 kills, 10 digs, six service points and three aces for the Admirals, while teammates Irene Kitson had 10 kills and Jordyn Wilsea had 13 digs and seven assists.

“The girls were looking forward to playing all day,” Arlington coach Maria Greenwood said. “A great first round performance tonight.”

Amber Ventura had 10 assists, Annalisa Alicea tallied eight service points and 13 digs, and Taylor Morgantini had 16 service points, seven assists and six digs.
