Blue Devils Win Ninth Straight Section 1, Class C Title

FREEDOM PLAINS – As far as the Haldane High School girls soccer team is concerned, there is unfinished business.

The Blue Devils scored three second-half goals on Sunday to wrap up their ninth consecutive Section 1, Class C championship with a 3-1 win over The Leffell School at neutral Arlington High School.

But there are deeper goals here.

Haldane made it to the state semifinals last year and are looking to go back and win it all this time.

“We have goals,” Blue Devils coach Steve Schweikhart said. “Let’s just say we have goals.”

Haldane looked a bit nervous in the first half but played like a nine-time champion in the second half with the three goals. Two of the tallies went to freshman Chloe Rowe and one to Liv Villella as the Blue Devils recovered from a 1-0 deficit to Leffell, formerly Solomon Schechter.

Haldane will take on Section 9 champion S.S. Seward in a regional final on Tuesday, 4 p.m. at Middletown High School.
