Indians Fall One Game Short Of The Dream In Section 1 Final

FREEDOM PLAINS – Falling one game short of the dream doesn’t mean it wasn’t a dream season.

The Mahopac High School girls soccer team fell to second-seeded North Rockland on Sunday, 2-1, in the Section 1, Class AA championship game at neutral Arlington High School.

The No. 4 Indians fell one game shy but finished 15-4 overall, made the finals, and beat No. 1 seed Arlington along the way – all without its top player, Carly Steinberg, who tore an ACL before the season even began.

And they never went away in this one.

Down 1-0 at the half, Mahopac tied it on a Mia Klammer penalty kick, shooting new life into the Indians and their fans. But with 18 minutes to play, Kelly Brady made a terrific move to shed a defender, drew out the keeper and slipped the game-winning goal into the net.
