Patriots Nip Huguenots To Earn Berth In Sectional Semifinals

WICCOPEE – Rob Seipp has seen a lot of soccer, both as a player and more than 20 years as a coach.

This one left a mark on him.

“Today’s game was honestly one of the best high school soccer games I’ve seen in a long time,” said the John Jay High School boys soccer coach after his third-seeded Patriots beat No. 6 New Rochelle, 1-0, in a Section 1, Class AA quarterfinal game on Saturday. “So many skilled players on the field and so nice to see both teams playing soccer instead of a physical, dirty game that many high school teams play.”

John Jay will now travel to No. 2 Mamaroneck on Wednesday for a semifinal contest.

Patriots sophomore Zachary Rabadi scored off of an assist by Billy Moore in the 58th minute for the game’s only goal. Senior goalkeeper Austin Morizet posted the shutout in net.

“ It’s a shame New Rochelle is eliminated, they are a great team, they have an amazing goalkeeper, so many skilled kids, and are incredibly well coached,” Seipp said. “It was, and always is, an honor to share the same field as New Rochelle.”
