Patriots Fall To Huguenots In Sectional Title Rematch

WICCOPEE – It was precise and it was methodical.

Four-time defending Section 1, Class AA football champion New Rochelle High School, the biggest nemesis over the last several years for John Jay, did it again on Friday night.

The Huguenots picked apart a Patriots team that made some uncanny mistakes, and New-Ro rolled to a 35-0 non-league victory.

John Jay is now 3-2 overall with two regular-season games remaining.

“They’re obviously a great defense. We had some big plays at times but also a few too many negative yardage plays,” John Jay coach Tom O’Hare said. “You pretty much have to play an almost perfect game to beat them.”

Yet despite being shutout, O’Hare said he won’t worry much about the game until the time comes that the two teams possibly meet again, as they did in the sectional final last season.

“Tonight is over and we can’t spend any time on it other than learning from mistakes we can clean up,” he said. “We can’t sulk. These last two games are huge in terms of where you stand for postseason play. We’re sitting at 3-2 with the two losses coming to schools that will finish with good records.”
