Raiders Hold Off Ardsley In Class B State Quarterfinals

MAHOPAC – In the lengthy annals of Port Jervis High School football, the Raiders are entering uncharted waters.

For the first time in school history Port Jervis is going to the New York State Final Four in Class B after the Raiders held off Ardsley, 20-14, in a state quarterfinal game Saturday at neutral Mahopac High School.

And, with the state finals just a step away, Port will be right in its backyard as it heads to neutral Faller Field at Middletown to play Section 2 champion Schuylerville in a state semifinal game on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Now 9-2, Port Jervis was in a 14-14 deadlock with the Panthers in the fourth quarter when defensive tackle Tishawn Featherstone had the play of the game. Featherstone read the screen pass attempt perfectly and picked off Ardsley quarterback Luke Mantini at the Panthers’ 11 yard line. Moments later, Freddy Blue carried it in from five yards out to break the tie with what ultimately turned out to be the winning score.

Marcus Best came up with a pretty one-handed interception – Port Jervis’ third of the fourth quarter – to seal the win.
