Pioneers Beat Ketcham To Take The Dutchess Region Championship

POUGHKEEPSIE – For the top two teams in the league, and the top two seeds in the Dutchess Region boys basketball tournament, it was only fitting that they meet for the title with a rubber match in the final game of the season.

But when it came down to the game to decide the trophy, Poughkeepsie took another close one.

Clinging to a one-point lead with 1:41 to play, the Pioneers closed it out with a 12-7 run in those last 101 seconds to beat RCK, 68-62, in Saturday’s championship game.

Jaysean Morgan lifted Poughkeepsie in that final quarter, scoring all 14 of his points in the final frame. Javal Cherry led Po’town with 18 points.

Ketcham’s Vashaun Wallace and Gabe Bristow both had 19 points.
