Warriors Beat Brewster In Season Opener For Both Teams

WAPPINGERS FALLS – Given all his success, Brian Kuczma naturally has the critical eye of a coach.

So while the mentor of the Wappingers boys lacrosse team saw things in Tuesday’s season opener that he’ll have his combined team from Ketcham and John Jay high schools work on, he nonetheless was pleased as the Warriors beat Brewster, 8-1.

“For an inexperienced team we definitely made our mistakes but played hard to make up for them,” Kuczma said. “Now it’s time to continue to improve as we move forward.”

Alex Ninos led Wappingers with three goals. Brayden Kuczma and James O’Rourke both had two goals and an assist apiece.

DJ Velsmid had a goal, while Ty Lema and Tyler McLaughlin both notched assists.

Wappingers goalie Brendan McNama had nine saves.

For Brewster, Aiden Sheil had the lone goal. Billy Finn made nine saves as well.
