The Poughkeepsie City School District has posted a job opening on its website for an interim athletic director – and nobody knows what it means.

Is current interim athletic director Bob Murphy out?

Is athletic coordinator JayQuan Floyd, who is being groomed for the athletic director position while he pursues all his required certificates, ready to take over?

Is a hire imminent before School Board trustees Ralph Coates and Greg Charter – known to meddle in athletic department affairs – lose their seats on July 1 after being voted out last month?

And is somebody going to hire a new football coach after Matt Relyea was terminated with cause after just one season?

Nobody from the district was returning calls on Wednesday, although Murphy told Hudson Valley Sports Report last week, “The assistant coaches are handling football. “We will have a (head) coach in place shortly.”

Murphy, while still coaching boys basketball at Woodlands High Schools, was making the decisions for the athletic department the last two years after HVSR broke the story of his hiring in October of 2015. Murphy guided the school back to Section 1 competition after two seasons in Section 9, and made the controversial decision to replace longtime boys basketball coach Brian Laffin with former Pioneer star Jerome Elting. In his first season, Elting led Poughkeepsie to a sectional title and a berth in the state quarterfinals.
