New Paltz Standout Wins Tournament By Three Strokes

HIGHLAND – For the second consecutive season, Nick Puleo walked off the golf course a champion.

The New Paltz High School standout was the only player to shoot in the 70s on Wednesday, winning the Mid-Hudson Athletic League individual title by three strokes.

The event was held at Apple Greens Golf Course in Highland, where par over 18 holes is 72.

Puleo shot a 77 to go back-to-back with championships by three strokes over Luke Whalen of Spackenkill, Ben Fox of Saugerties and Joe Nesbitt of Roosevelt.

Five shots back were Millbrook’s Hunter Stoliker and Colin Reichelt of Rhinebeck.

Ike Rothman of FDR and Oliver Watson of New Paltz both carded an 83.

Rounding out the top 10 was Onteora’s Adam Williams, who shot 86.

The top 20 qualified for the Section 9 championships in the spring. The rest of the qualifiers include Michael Bucholsky, David Remsberger and Connor Hart of Roosevelt; Robert DeLaurentis and Oliver Katz of Spackenkill; Oliver Menon of Saugerties; John Ryder of Marlboro; Cole Dixon of Rhinebeck; Josh Clinton of New Paltz; and Dan Harkin of Rondout Valley.
