Soccer Wins First Sectional Championship

RED HOOK – History in the making.

The Red Hook High School boys soccer team won the first sectional title in school history on Tuesday, beating Cornwall 1-0 for the Section 9, Class B championship.

The Raiders finished 11-1-1.

“All season it’s been 18-20 guys pulling together in the same direction and it all paid off tonight,” said Red Hook head coach Steve Sutton.

In a low-scoring affair, Logan Tondini’s goal was the only scoring in the game. Tondini scored on a header that he redirected of a cross from Brendan Donohue, who was credited with an assist. The goal was scored with 18 minutes left to give Red Hook the 1-0 lead that it never relinquished.

Angel Selenis started in net for Red Hook, and came up clutch by posting a shutout and making four saves, three of which came while protecting the lead.

As for Cornwall, Justin Seitz started in net and made three saves, but with Red Hook’s stifling defensive play that proved to be too much for Cornwall to come back from.

“Every guy gave a huge effort, and we needed every bit of it,” said Sutton. “I’m very proud of them all.”
