RED HOOK – On Senior Night in Red Hook, in a battle of Section 9 field hockey powerhouses, Kingston High School defeated Red Hook by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday.

“It was a battle up and down the field, with Red Hook pushing for the fast breaks and Kingston staving off midfield spurts,” said Red Hook head coach Cari Meltzer. “I am proud of our team for the effort and heart with which they played. We stayed true to our philosophy of fast, possession hockey. We came up a goal short, but our effort and perseverance were top notch.”

Kingston’s Hannah Timbrouck started off the scoring with a goal in the first quarter.

The Raiders’ Danielle Walsh notched an assist, and found Maddie Anderson, who tied the game up later in the quarter for Red Hook at 1-1.

But Timbrouck scored her second goal of the night, which

proved to be the game-winning goal, in the second quarter. Kingston’s Niara Franklin added an assist on the decisive goal. Kingston held on in the second half as the game went scoreless after that.

Red Hook goalie Phoenix Mercier notched 10 saves. Kingston goalie Kara Houston added four saves.
