Soccer Teams Knocking On The Door Of The Final Four

MIDDLETOWN – One step away.

The Rhinebeck and John S. Burke high school boys soccer teams are closing in on berths in the New York State Final Four after both teams were victorious on Tuesday night.

Rhinebeck used a pair of Noah Lortie goals to beat Long Island champion Southold, 2-0, in a Class C state regional semifinal game at Faller Field in Middletown.

The Hawks, still unbeaten at 18-0-1, will face Section 1 champion Alexander Hamilton on Saturday night in a state quarterfinal game at Pace University. Kickoff is at 8 p.m., and the winner goes to the Final Four.

Burke is playing under the same scenario in Class B. The Eagles got two goals from Chris Shust and beat Bronxville, 2-0, at neutral Hendrick Hudson High School.

Burke will be back on the pitch on Saturday against the Long Island champion, either Carle Place or Center Moriches, for a state quarterfinal contest. Site and time will be determined.
