ROOSEVELT HAMMERS PINE BUSH

Presidents Look Strong In Home Win

HYDE PARK – Seventh-grader Cali DeLawder just introduced herself to Section 9 softball.

DeLawder had two hits and three RBI on Monday, including a two-run home run to center field, helping an offensive onslaught by the Franklin D. Roosevelt High School softball team in a 12-3 victory over Pine Bush.

DeLawder had two of FDR’s 14 hits.

“The girls came out wanting to win and prove to our section that we still have fire and are a contender,” Presidents coach Kristi Coughlin said. “My offense showed up and were consistently getting on base and moving runners over, which was something we were struggling with early on this season.  I have a big amount of seniors and then a lot of young kids that are having their first Varsity season.  So to show up and win against a big AA school should give them the boost of confidence we need to push through this upcoming week.”

Amanda Owens had three hits, including a triple and three runs scored. Liz Gross had two hits and four RBI and Jess Feerick went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Gross, Katelynn Rose and Mary Sadowski all pitched for Roosevelt, with Gross earning the win by scattering five hits over four innings.

Bridget Kiernan had two hits and two RBI for Pine Bush.

“This was a great win for my girls,” Coughlin said. “ We had a tough loss against New Paltz last week, so it was great to get a win under our belt.”
