ROOSEVELT MOVES CLOSER TO TITLE

FDR Gymnastics Wins Again Over Wallkill

HYDE PARK – It was déjà vu all over again Monday for the Franklin D. Roosevelt High School gymnastics team.

For the second time in three days – and third time this year – the Presidents defeated Wallkill, 153.55-129.65, inching closer to the division crown.

Roosevelt is 5-0 and needs at least a split in a tri-meet next week against Kingston and New Paltz to win the title outright ahead of the Section 9 championships in two weeks.

“Wallkill had an injury and one of their gymnasts could not be here, but what a class act those kids are,” FDR coch Dan Hassoun said. “They worked hard and did everything they were supposed to do.”

The Panthers Miah Frisbee won the all-around with 33.30 points, barely edging Roosevelt’s Danika Bolitho, who had 33.25 points.

But it was FDR’s depth that once again won the overall meet.

Shannon Kelly won the vault in a 1-2-3 FDR sweep with Bolitho and Emily Muraco.

Frisbee won the uneven parallel bars and balance beam events. But on the bars Bolitho, Clara Patton, Kelly and Emma Jaeger finished second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively, while on the beam it was Bolitho, Kelly and Jaeger going 2-3-4 behind Frisbee.

Bolitho won the floor exercises event.
