Blue Devils Open With Strong Road Victory

RYE NECK – Apparently, those Santos twins do just as much damage on the basketball court as they do on the football field.

Daniel Santos had a game-high 23 points, and Darrin Santos hit two game-winning free throws with 3.8 seconds left, leading the Haldane High School boys basketball team opened the season with strong 61-59 road win at Rye Neck on Tuesday.

“This was a great team win,” Blue Devils coach Joe Virgadamo said, “and a huge comeback to start the season.”

Rye Neck led virtually the entire game and actually took a 10-point advantage going into the final quarter. But Daniel Santos scored more than half his points in the last frame by drilling four three-point shots to bring the Devils back and set up his twin brother’s heroics.

Alex Kubik had 13 points for Haldane and Mame Diba added 10.
