SELANDER, LOURDES BOYS PREVAIL AGAINST LAKELAND

Warriors Withstand Crazy Outburst By Jack Kruse

POUGHKEEPSIE – It’s been a crazy last four games for the Our Lady of Lourdes High School boys basketball team.

Triple overtime win against Arlington.

Overtime loss to Peekskill.

Breather and a victory against Hendrick Hudson.

And down to the wire on Saturday against Lakeland after surviving a tremendous shooting display by Jack Kruse.

Lourdes’ Ryan Selander hit two free throws with 1.5 seconds to play, giving the Warriors a 71-69 victory over the Hornets.

Will Hart led OLL with 19 points, Sean Lee and Andrew Rappleyea had 12 points each, and Trevor Zamudio kicked in 11.

But Kruse put on a show in the Lourdes gym. He single-handedly brought Lakeland back from a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter to tie the game, draining six of his 10 three-pointers in the final frame and finishing with a game-high 32 points.

But after the Hornets tied the game with 20 seconds left, Lourdes decided not to call timeout and pushed the ball up the floor. The Warriors worked the ball to Hart, who missed a shot. But Selander got the rebound, went up, got fouled and hit the game-winning free throws.

OLL improved to 8-4 overall.
