SHORT-HANDED MAHOPAC FALLS IN TENNIS

Indians Had Only Five Players For The Match

MAHOPAC – The Mahopac High School girls tennis team came up short in a shortened season-opening match on Wednesday.

Competing with only five players, the Indians and Somers played just four matches and short-handed Mahopac lost to the Tuskers, 4-0.

“It was a lack of practice for some of my players; they just didn’t get enough practices in (to be eligible to play),” Mahopac coach Jeanne Miller said. “But it was a beautiful day outside and I am thankful that Somers still came to play.”

The two teams were able to get three singles matches and one doubles match in. At No. 1 singles, Mahopac’s Rebekah Muldoon, a junior, lost 8-0 to Zoe Gutterman. At second singles, Lanna Plateroti fell to Sabrina Cheung, 8-0. Sophia Palminteri lost at third singles to Somers’ Chloe Monticelia, 8-0. And in first doubles Kaylie Hammond and Sophia Maldonado lost 8-2 to Kelly Bowden and Daniella Ejilli of the Tuskers.

“We’re starting off slowly but they enjoyed themselves,” Miller said. “So we’re looking at it as we got an early match in and soon we’ll have our players back.”
