Newburgh, Monroe-Woodbury Both Win, Will Meet For League Title

NEWBURGH – And once again, the showdown is on.

Newburgh Free Academy and Monroe-Woodbury High School both won their respective football games on Friday night, setting up a winner-take-all game next week for the regular-season league title and the No. 1 overall seed in the Section 9, Class AA playoffs.

Both teams are 5-0 in the league.

Steven Campione led a balanced Monroe-Woodbury attack as the Crusaders bat Valley Central, 51-29. Campione rushed for 112 yards and three touchdowns, and threw for 132 yards . Teammate Pete Mastropolo had three rushing touchdowns.

Newburgh took care of Pine Bush by spotting the Bushmen an early touchdown, and then ripping off the next 48 points in a 48-14 victory.

Terry Anderson rushed for 146 yards and two scores to lead the Goldbacks, who are seeking a fifth straight Section 9, Class AA title.
