In a metaphorical sense, Our Lady of Lourdes High School girls basketball star Maddy Siegrist kept her college choice all in the family.

The Viani family.

Following in the footsteps of former Lourdes standout Jenna Viani – daughter of current OLL girls basketball coach Al Viani and wife of current Warriors athletic director Matt Pascale – Siegrist made it official on Thursday and signed her National Letter of Intent to play at Villanova University.

“The reputation – academically and athletically – made it stand out,” Siegrist told HVSR. “When I went on my official visit, I just loved the girls there.”

Siegrist, entering her senior year, led OLL with 21 points, 12 rebounds and four assists last season as the Warriors made it to the Section 1, Class AA semifinals before falling to perennial champion Ossining.

She was recruited by several Division I schools, including Marist and St. John’s, before making up her mind to head to ‘Nova.

“I’ve become very close with coach’s family,” Siegrist said of Al Viani. “Jenna and Julianne were very helpful with any questions I had in the recruiting process.”

Jenna played at Villanova from 2002-2006; Julianne played at Marist.

Villanova made it all the way to the Women’s NIT semifinals last year before falling at Michigan.

In addition to seeking advice from her coach and his daughters, Siegrist of course had her father to fall back on – former Roosevelt High School star and Marist College standout George Siegrist.

“My family and friends have been so supportive and helpful during this process,” she said. “Also I can’t thank coach Viani enough for being there for me and helping me become the person and player I am today.”
