Wappingers’ Carpentieri Gets 600th Save, Sets Sights On 700

WAPPINGERS FALLS – If 600 is better than 500, then 700 just might be the ultimate.

Wappingers girls lacrosse star Skylar Carpentieri reached another milestone this spring, making her 600th career save on Thursday in a 12-6 loss to Section 1 power Lakeland/Panas.

“It feels unreal,” Carpentieri told HVSR. “At the beginning of this season I made my 500th and to make my 600th in the same season was really cool. Making it on senior night was really special as well.”

Now she has her sights set on the next barrier.

“I set goals for myself for the season as a whole and for each individual game, and one of the goals I had was to make my 500th,” she said. “Once I achieved that I thought to myself, ‘Let’s keep going and make it all the way to 600.’ Now I’m here so I’m going keep going to 700.”

Carpentieri knows the speed bumps that lie ahead. Specifically, she’s running out of time.

“That’s quite a reach being that we only have a few games left in the season,” she said. Indeed, Wappingers has just three regular-season games left before the Section 1 playoffs, and it’s likely she and the Warriors will need a deep run – at least three more games – with Carpentieri averaging 17 saves a game.

It’s asking a lot.

But don’t put past her.

If anybody can control the outcome, a goalie like Carpentieri can.

“(Getting to 700) is definitely something that drives and motivates me to play my best in every single game,” she said.
