Spartans Stay Unbeaten With Shutout Of Webutuck

POUGHKEEPSIE – Five for five in five.

The Spackenkill High School baseball team made it five wins in five games on Thursday, needing only five innings to beat Webutuck, 13-0, in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League game called early by the 10-run mercy rule.

The Spartans have outscored their opponents 50-7 in those five games.

Steve Cianco was 3-for-3 with a double and four RBI to lead Spackenkill’s hit parade. Xavier Zykoff and Anthony Hoyt each had two hits, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs, while

Kole Dominick tripled in a run.

The combination of Sean Lucas, Damien Sherilla and Ciancio combined to throw five innings of one-hit ball with 13 strikeouts.

“I thought it was a total team effort,” Spackenkill coach Don Niese said. “We received contributions throughout the lineup.”
