SPACKENKILL GIRLS WIN FIRST GAME

Spartans Knock Off Ellenville

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Spartans are off the hook.

After nine straight losses to open the season, the Spackenkill High School girls basketball team produced its first win of the year on Friday night, a 47-15 Mid-Hudson Athletic League victory over Ellenville.

“It was a total team effort tonight,” Spackenkill coach Don Niese said. “I have been extremely proud of the way we have worked all season and am really happy that they could experience some success for their efforts. Hopefully, we can gain some confidence from this and continue to work.”

Mya Hansen led the Spartans with 11 points and five steals. Kayla Zanders had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, Olivia Michail added eight points and three assists and Tori Guy had seven points.

Sophie Santiago led Ellenville with six points.
