No. 1 Stays No. 1

Only a slight change to the Hudson Valley Sports Report High School Football Power Rankings following the Week 3 games over the weekend.

We flip-flopped our Nos. 2 and 3 teams, but that’s about it. Barely any change at all among our five top teams

If anything, Carmel strengthened its hold on No. 1 with what is arguably the biggest and most impressive win so far this season of any school in the Putnam-Dutchess-Westchester-Rockland-Ulster-Orange-Sullivan greater metropolis.

For now, here is your HVSR Top 5.

(HVSR covers 31 high schools – all Dutchess, Putnam and Ulster county schools, plus Newburgh in Orange County.)

KNOCKING ON THE DOOR – Highland (3-1), Dover (2-1),

HONORABLE MENTION – Wallkill (3-1), Red Hook (3-1), Pine Plains (2-0), John Jay (2-1)

5-PAWLING (3-0) – The Tigers easily handed upstart Dover on the road on Friday night. Big one coming up this weekend against Pine Plains.

4-BEACON (2-0) – The Bulldogs will be back in the groove this weekend after a week off, taking on Goshen on the road in what is always a tough place to play.

3-MARLBORO (2-1) – The Iron Dukes didn’t get a win but got mad respect back in only falling to Port Jervis by two points, after losing two games in the spring by 119-0.

2-NEWBURGH (2-1) – Good bounce-back win for the Goldbacks. After losing in the last minute to Cornwall, NFA beat Middletown as it prepares for a 3-1 Warwick team.

1-CARMEL (3-0) – Not even close. If we could make Carmel No. 1 and No. 1A, we would, especially after Saturday’s impressive 28-0 domination of perennial Section 1, Class AA champion New Rochelle.
