Men Knock Off Liberty League Leaders

POUGHKEEPSIE – What a night for the Vassar College basketball programs.

The Vassar women extended their win streak to 13 after a 60-45 victory over visiting St. Lawrence on Friday evening at the AFC. Junior Jackie Cenan was a rebound shy of a double-double and led Vassar with 17 points and nine boards. She scored 15 of her points in the seconds half.

Sophie Nick and Isa Peczuh were the other two double-digit scorers for the Brewers. Nick had 16, while Peczuh tallied 14 points.

For the second time in 10 days, the Vassar men’s basketball team upset the Liberty League leaders.  The Brewers, who knocked off Skidmore on Jan. 15, controlled Friday night’s matchup with St. Lawrence from the start with a 70-49 triumph over the first-place Saints (11-6, 8-2 Liberty).

“Our guys were able to find different ways to attack them (St. Lawrence),” Vassar coach Ryan Mee said.  “We executed the game plan and made shots.  That’s a huge difference.  We didn’t make shots (when we played them) up there.”

The Brewers scored the first seven points of the game, led by 11 at halftime and ballooned that to as much as 26 points in the second half.

Alex Seff drained five treys and finished with a game-high 17 points for Vassar.  Zach Bromfeld posted his third double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  He also registered three blocks.
