Panthers Sweep New Paltz In Section 9, Class A

WALLKILL – Well, go figure.

The Section 9, Class A volleyball championship will come down to  …  wait for it … Wallkill and Cornwall high schools.


The two familiar foes both swept their respective semifinal matches on Friday and will meet on Sunday for the crown at SUNY New Paltz at 3 p.m.

Top-seeded Wallkill put away No. 4 New Paltz with scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-18 in a competitive and entertaining match.

Madison Dembroski led the Panthers with 10 kills and six digs, while teammate Colleen Romero had eight kills and four aces.

Angela Mayer had five digs, four kills and three aces, and Emma Secor did her Emma Secor distributing thing with 25 assists and five digs.

For New Paltz, Ella Skye Franks had 17 assists, nine digs and three aces while Francesca Germinaro had seven kills and a block.

Jordan Giancola added 11 digs and nine kills, and Alex Frenza had six kills.

Cornwall also swept its match, beating Minisink Valley 3-0.
