WAPPINGERS FALLS IN TITLE GAME

Warriors Downed By Nine-Time Boys Lax Champ Lakeland/Panas

MAHOPAC – Not without a fight.

The historic season for the Wappingers boys lacrosse program came to an end on Thursday with a 6-4 defeat at the hands of Lakeland/Panas in the Section 1, Class A championship game.

It was the ninth overall sectional crown for L/P; it was the first appearance in the title game by Wappingers or any other Dutchess County program.

The Warriors finish the best season in their short history with a 15-4 record.

Lakeland grabbed a 4-0 lead in the game and seemed headed toward an easy victory as Wappingers couldn’t sustain any offense. But Jake Shaw gave the Warriors life, getting one past the goalie with under four minutes to play before halftime to make it 4-1 at the break.

That gave the Warriors some momentum and certainly some confidence. They came out of the break and scored two bang-bang goals in the first four minutes – one from Austin Cox, one from Christian Gallagher – and suddenly it was a 4-3 game and Wappingers wasn’t going down without a fight.

But L/P quelled the momentum and Tim Fallo scored back-to-back goals – he had four on the game – to make it 6-3.

A Gallagher goal brought it to 6-4 late in the third, but the two teams played a scoreless fourth quarter.
