WEEK 2 HS FOOTBALL: BEACON AT POUGHKEEPSIE PREVIEW AND PREDICTION

A Throw-Back, Old-School Matchup

WHO: Beacon (0-1) at Poughkeepsie (1-0)

WHEN: Saturday, 1:30 p.m.

WHERE: Sam Kalloch Field, Poughkeepsie HS

WHAT TO WATCH ON BEACON: Beacon is coming off a blowout loss to John Jay-Cross River, one of the best teams in the section. Throw it out the window. The Bulldogs have quality skill position players, and rookie QB Joe DeCandia will grow into the spot.

WHAT TO WATCH ON POUGHKEEPSIE: Poughkeepsie is coming off a blowout loss to Somers, the defending Class A state champions. If that sounds like what we just wrote above, well, it is – and it just goes to show that you’re never as bad as you look when you’re bad, and never as good as you look when you’re good. Poughkeepsie has a new coach in Nigel Whitaker who still hasn’t implemented everything he wants to do as he tries to rebuild a fractured program. That’s more important.

THE SKINNY: This could be a fun, entertaining game. Both teams have a ton of speed, but right now Beacon has just a little more experience than the Pioneers on defense.

HVSR PREDICTION: Beacon 30, Poughkeepsie 28
